Escalation of Commitment

Power Struggles, Communication problems; and Unresolved Emotional Issues

Every time I show you vibes, you cannot see it. Every time I tell the truth, you don't believe it. Don't tell me I don't know about commitment!

Why are we committed to echo chambers?

Do you seek victory rather than wisdom?

“The wise win before the fight while the ignorant fight to win,” - Zhuge Liang

If you have an opportunity to engage with an external perspective, especially within a pre-established community of trust, consider letting your guard down. Place some temporary trust in your colleague. They are trying to connect with you. Don’t try to debunk the information they are sharing, certainly not as your opening gambit.

Set Limits

Try consuming at least 5% of your content from external perspectives. Doing this has asymmetric upside FOR YOU because at worst its an insurance policy for blindspotting. At best you might expand your subject-matter-horizons. At very best you might blow-your-mind and change your mind! [Yes, some people still do that in 2025.]

Be Open to Re-evaluating

If you find yourself consuming > 5% external content over time, you might benefit from positional rebalancing. Updating your default instructions in the presence of wisdom should be an end in itself.

Focus on Future Outcomes

Do you want to spend your time defending the past or projecting the future? Why are you in a committed relationship if you don’t allow yourself to let go and connect

Acknowledge Sunk Costs

Admit and be open to rational defeat and reframe defeat as your intellectual victory.
